Family History
My fiancé and I were talking about having children.  We are both concerned about having a child with genetic diseases.  Are there any families that are at high risk for such problems?

As with most areas of medicine, any family with a history of a genetic disease is at higher risk for the same problem to occur in that family.  If you are aware of any specific genetic disorder in your family, it is very important to speak with your health care professional about it before you decide to get pregnant.  They can help you determine the risk of transmitting this problem to your future children.

If you are not sure whether a disease or disorder is genetically caused, it is also important to speak with your health care provider.  They can help you determine whether or not it is genetic.
